Are electric cars really the future of the automotive industry? I’m not sure and I still have mixed feelings about them.
Electric cars are becoming more and more common every day with companies like Tesla pushing more people to switch to electricity. These cars bring a lot of promise however I am not so sure about them.
Before we get started, we should first talk about the pros and cons of electric cars compared to cars run on fossil fuels. First, electric cars are nowhere near as bad for the environment. Also, with electricity comes instant torque. The cars dominate the drag strip all because of their immense acceleration and charging it up is really cheap.
The Tesla Model S has a 0-60mph (100kmh) time of 2.28 seconds in a four-door sedan! That beats most hypercars. Also, the new Tesla Roadster is said to have a 0-60 mph time of 1.9 seconds.
One thing that some people would like (but I don’t) is that they don’t really make any noise. Most car enthusiasts would also hate that.
The cons are usually not as much range as a petrol powered car, they for some people aren’t as exciting without that roar of the engine. Also, there aren’t as many things that you can do to up the power in an electric car.
The main company that has been ahead in the electric game is Tesla. They have sold the most amount of electric cars and have caused other companies to follow their lead. Now companies like the BMW and GM have started to push more for electric powered cars.
Now, I know all of this is great. Electric cars are as quick as hell. They have tons of storage and they are super high tech. The only thing that is holding me back is the engine noise and the drivers feel. Just the feel of driving an electric car can’t compare to a car with an engine in it. Now I know that for a lot of people, this isn’t a problem but for me, the roar of the engine is one of the key things that makes a car good.
All of this means really means that I am in the middle. Now, just because I am in the middle doesn’t mean that I would go for a Hybrid. I would much rather have one or another (also, when I think of hybrids, I think of Prius’).
